Uncongested US West Coast Ro-Ro Hub with Quicker Throughput and More Capacity

The only US West Coast commercial deep water seaport between Los Angeles and San Francisco, The Port of Hueneme specializes in autos and other ro-ro, high-and-heavy and project cargo. Strategically located in the center of the most populated state in the US with one of the largest automotive industry markets. The Port of Hueneme handles over 6% of all US car volume.

Why Original Equipment Manufacturers Choose the Port of Hueneme

The Port of Hueneme is the geographic epicenter for the consumer auto markets of Central and Southern California, and the growing Southern Nevada region. Optimally positioned to serve emerging short sea shipping opportunities, the Port offers a dedicated ro-ro terminal, six deepwater berths and 8,000 parking bays — adjacent to three auto processors who have handled as many as 360,000 autos, with capacity to meet increasing demand.

The Port is the grantee of the Foreign Trade Zone #205, which defers Customs duty until they are ready for U.S. consumption, shipped on to another FTZ or shipped to another country, with the duty deferment still in effect or paying no duty at all.

Automotive Experts

The Port of Hueneme is a vital link in the automotive industry supply chain and has experienced consistent growth since the first vehicles arrived in 1977. A full-service auto port with highly skilled and motivated teams focused on unique customer requirements, maximum productivity and minimal risk of danger.

World Class Processing

Vehicles are processed by three nearby world-class facilities: Wallenius Wilhelmsen Solutions (WWS), GLOVIS America Inc. and BMW.

Easy Intermodal Access

Uncongested waterways, docks and transportation corridors result in quick turnaround time and fewer delays. Near dock access to Ventura County Railroad (VCRR), a local short line rail system with the highest safety ratings, operated by Genesee & Wyoming. VCRR is an integral corridor for the movement of autos through the port and its processing facilities, interchanging with Union Pacific Railroad, providing an important intermodal link throughout North America. The port’s intermodal corridor provides streamlined access to major California transportation routes, US Highway 101 and Interstate 5.
