[Port Hueneme, CA – June 26, 2024] —  The Port Hueneme Little League celebrated its closing ceremony with a grand slam, marking the end of an exciting and successful season. More than 100 residents and their families joined, at Johnson Creek Park, to cheer on their team at the championship game. In an inspirational display of skill and determination, the Port Hueneme Little League Championship game concluded with the Vanderbilt team claiming victory for the Minor/10u division and Colorado winning the Majors/12u division for the Spring 2024 Season.

In a show of unwavering support for the community and young athletes alike, representatives from The Port of Hueneme and City of Port Hueneme joined in on the fun and added some extra excitement with the presentation of a check in the amount of $5,000 to Port Hueneme Little League. This contribution, from the Port of Hueneme and City of Port Hueneme’s Community Benefit Fund (CBF), was made to honor the players for their fantastic display of the talent and sportsmanship and the countless dedicated volunteers committed to providing an opportunity for youth to participate in a fun, organized, and safe environment.

“We are immensely grateful to the Port & City of Hueneme for their generous sponsorship and support. This contribution helps us continue to provide a nurturing and competitive environment for our young athletes. It is through acts of community support like these that we can keep the love of baseball and community alive in the hearts of our youth. On behalf of Port Hueneme Little League, I extend our heartfelt thanks to the Port & City of Hueneme!” said Port Hueneme Little League President Ana Bolo.

Port Hueneme Little League is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to foster leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, and community spirit among our young athletes through the game of baseball. For the last 65 years they have supported youth from the ages of 4 -16 work together to achieve a common goal and demonstrate how their individual actions can contribute to the success of the team. For Port Hueneme Little League baseball is more than just a game; it’s a platform for imparting valuable life lessons that can help shape our local youth into well-rounded individuals who value community, hard work, and perseverance.

“This recognition from our joint Community Benefit Fund (CBF) is not just for the league, but for every child, parent, and coach who has been a part of this wonderful journey. We are proud to support the next generation of leaders, both on and off the field.” said Mayor Pro Tem Martha McQueen-Leghon.

In Hueneme and South Oxnard, the game of baseball has proved to be more than just a sport. In these communities, as well as others across America, baseball has played a vital role in the preservation of local culture and identity. Port Hueneme Little League’s commitment to baseball is evident in it’s unconditional and unwavering support for the game and has fostered a sense of unity and pride that transcends generation after generation.
